ABGESAGT! (wegen Coronavirus) --- Symposium "High Entropy Alloys: Potential for industrial applications"
High entropy alloys (HEA) are a group of novel metallic materials that differ significantly from conventional materials in their mechanical and functional properties. They display, for example, high strength while maintaining a ductile deformation behavior, and demonstrate huge potentials for future applications especially at high operating temperatures. Due to these exciting properties HEA will enable new high performance products in applications like aerospace, energy, tool making and different fields of engineering.
Major challenges for the industrial application of HEA are currently material availability, material synthesis and processing routes. Moreover, due to an almost infinite variety of possible material compositions alloy identification is a challenging task. For these reasons HEA have been exclusively processed in small quantities and at a laboratory scale. Additive manufacturing and coating technologies serve as powerful tools for the development and synthesis of HEA. In addition, the potential of the alloying systems can be better exploited covering an even broader range of applications.
The symposium will provide insight into the international state of the art of research and development on HEA. It will present fundamental findings as well as potentials of these alloys for future applications. A further goal is to give an inside into the possibilities and challenges of the industrialization of HEA to potential users.
Key Topics:
- Properties and potential applications of HEA
- Requirements for new high temperature materials (mechanical properties, oxidation resistance)
- Corrosion and wear protection of tools
- Synthesis of HEA by means of additive manufacturing as well as coating and thin film technologies
- Super hard yet tough and wear resistant coatings on the basis of HEA nitrides
- Screening tools for material development (synthesis, characterization and thermodynamic modelling)
