Inline inspection of multiaxial carbon-fiber plys

At the Fraunhofer IKTS site in Dresden-Klotzsche our focus is on developing advanced non-destructive testing solutions for ceramics and many other materials. We are constantly working on new solutions. We would like to present some of these to you in our new NDT4INDUSTRY online seminar series. We want to make it live and interactive – so keep watching!

Next seminar on March 16, 2022, 3:00 p.m. CET – Inline inspection of multiaxial carbon-fiber plys with Martin Schulze (Group Manager: Eddy Current Methods)

Multiaxial high-performance carbon fiber fabrics (NCF) in full production width can be inspected non-destructively inline only with optical methods using line scan cameras. Invisible hidden layers with the are not inspectable with these standard methods.

Therefore, a completely novel multi-channel eddy current system was invented at Fraunhofer IKTS. A demonstrator system, based on the industrial proven IKTS EddyCus® Pro-II Eddy-Current hardware, was initially presented at JEC-Conference 2019. Today this sensor technology achieved a high technological readiness level.

In this NDT4INDUSTRY seminar Martin Schulze gives a theoretical insight into eddy-current testing on carbon fiber components. Furthermore, the developed modular eddy-current sensor line will be presented in a lab tour.
