5th PrintoCent InnoFest

The world’s most renowned open idea competition around printed intelligence, PrintoCent InnoFest will take place once again in Nallikari, Oulu 7-8.6.2018. PrintoCent is organizing this international 2-day InnoFest to closely facilitate the development of great variety of printed solutions.

PrintoCent has a quest to inspire, educate and create opportunities around printed intelligence and electronics. To do this, we invite together world experts and leading companies exploiting printed intelligence solutions. InnoFest hosts the event for 25 teams competing on their ideas, which will be polished with the help of the best researchers (VTT, UO, OUAS & others) and company experts. One can participate with an existing team or join in a new one in the competition. Traditionally the participants have varied from students, researchers to company representatives from numerous fields of business. In just 2 days we’ll be able to see how well the printed solutions fit in various business cases.

“This year one notable thing is, that all the keynote speakers are from companies which are already selling and manufacturing their printed intelligence based products, showing that Printed Intelligence is moving from research laboratories to manufacturing scale up and step by step to mainstream business” sums Ilkka Kaisto, the father of PrintoCent InnoFest.

Printed business is booming

Besides ground breaking innovations, printed intelligence also means increased business and the latest estimation is that there will be well over 1.000 new industrial jobs around electronics production in Finland by 2020.  The possibilities are endless as structural electronics create products for Internet of Things, both automotive interior and exterior, windscreens, home appliances, shoe insoles, wearables and smart clothing to mention a few. Multidisciplinary skills and cooperative ways of working are needed, and this is where PrintoCent excels in supporting its Industry Cluster members. The future looks bright as there are already well over 300 people working in this field and 100 doing research in the Oulu area.

Variety of ideas

Like always, also this year’s InnoFest is free of charge to participate and it will gather about 150 people to bring new printed ideas into more mature commercial solutions. The competing ideas have greatly varied in the past and InnoFest will reward the best ideas on Friday, June 8th in the categories like best business potential, wildest idea and the industry favorite.
